[ Jeju Update] After the Dec. 15 court decision

As the Jeju court trampled on the last legal hope of the villagers and Island people by its sentencing of the improper qualification of the plaintiffs’ (villagers) to file the lawsuit for the annulment of the cancellation of the absolute preservation area on Dec. 15, the Gangjeong villagers will have its final general meeting on the naval base issue regarding the matter of whether they would continue to fight or accept the naval base in the evening of Dec. 17 (Korean time). Otherwise, the Jeju activists, including Catholic Fathers’ will set up the tents in the two sites of the Gangjeong stream and Joonduk coast to resist against the navy’s enforcement of construction that are expected starting in days. No matter what the villagers’ decision would be, they have expressed their will to fight against the naval base construction that would eventually destabilize peace in the Jeju Island, the Island of Peace, officially designated since Jan. 5 2005.
More update comes later. Meanwhile see the activists’ statement here and here. The other translations related to the content, including the villagers’ would come later.
